The Author

Robert Hitt Neill is a native of Brownspur, Mississippi, a small plantation community. He graduated with honors from Leland High School, where he was also an All-State football player. He played football at Ole Miss when the Rebels were the Number One Team in America. He married his college sweetheart, Betsy Henrich, who was an Ole Miss Top Six Beauty and Rebelette. They have three grown kids: Christie, Adam, and B.C., who along with husband John has given them two grandsons, living in Leland.

Neill served in combat as a Navy Officer during the Vietnam War, then farmed for 20 years after the service, while writing as a hobby. His writing was first published in 1985, and he became a full-time author & speaker in 1987. He has published 12 books, 1500+ magazine articles, written a weekly syndicated newspaper column for 25 years, and spoken over 1500 times in 25 states as a professional storyteller. He has won dozens of writing awards, and has been nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize.

He was a news and ad consultant for television for a dozen years, and is currently the Music Minister for Calvary Baptist Church, Greenville. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Seminary with a Music Leader's Degree and leads the MS Kairos Music Team, which has recently released a DVD and CD set of praise and worship music as well as the new all original CD, "Kairos Cantata".

He recently retired as Executive Director of the Leland Chamber of Commerce. He has served as president of the Southeastern Outdoor Press Ass'n and the Delta Advertising Federation. In civic affairs, he has been President of the Library Board and the Leland Academy and served on the Washington School Board, as well as the MS Burn Center board, as Arts Council Treasurer, has been a Little League & Dizzy Dean League baseball coach, and is a Family Reading Bonds Storyteller for the MS Dept. of Humanities.

Neill has served his church as deacon, youth minister, music minister, pulpit speaker, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was a Volunteer Missionary to Rural America for the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. He and his wife are active in the Emmaus Walk Ministry and the Kairos International Prison Ministry. He was 2007-08 State Kairos Board Chairman, is leader of MS Kairos Music Team, and was the MS Rep to the KPMI International Council 2010-2012.

Bob & Betsy still live on the family farm at Brownspur and celebrate 50 years of marriage on June 3rd, 2014.
